The DIY+ model

Across all our services, we offer a range of ways to work together to fit the varied and changing needs of our clients. We call this our DIY+ model. In short, it means you’ve got two paths to choose from:

  • The DIY+ route: Pick and choose where you need our hands-on support, and where you’d rather do it yourself with our provided templates, software, and implementation guides.

  • The Full Franky: We’ll run the process end-to-end, working closely with your team and training you in how to implement the process along the way.

Let’s walk through an example...

The Full Franky

We have been working with a tech start-up for a few years now. As they’ve grown their team, they’ve used various combinations of our DIY+ offering, as well as The Full Franky, depending on how much support they needed for each role.

Initially, they came to us needing to hire a high-priority executive role. They went with The Full Franky for this, which means we ran the hiring process, supporting them every step of the way. This included: 

  • Consulting with the founders to scope the role.

  • Writing a job ad.

  • Salary benchmarking.

  • Using our recruitment software to manage candidates, including scheduling interviews and end-to-end communication. 

  • Reviewing candidates and pairing with the hiring manager to conduct short initial interviews.

  • Conducting and assessing psychometric tests.

  • Designing and running assessment activities to test candidates’ technical skills and culture fit.

  • Partnering with the executive team to conduct a final, long-form interview with selected candidates.

  • Decision-making support.

  • Salary negotiation.

  • Reference checks.

At every stage, we coached the executive team through the process so that they understood the ‘why’ behind each step and could replicate it. Then, when they were ready to hire for their next role, they had a good grasp of the process and felt ready to try the DIY+ model.

DIY+

Since hiring that first role, they’ve used different parts of the DIY+ model depending on what kind of support they needed. This always starts with our base package: access to our recruitment software, which contains our email templates, interview questions, and instructions that help scaffold each step in the process.

On top of that, for each role they’ve added different optional extras from the DIY+ menu, depending on their needs. Some things they’ve got our help with include: 

  • Writing a job ad.

  • Interpreting psychometric tests and providing recommendations.

  • Asking for ad-hoc advice and guidance via a private Slack channel.

  • Designing skill assessments and culture fit tests, and talking through the results.

After hiring a few roles, our client got the hang of things and needed our help less and less. But when they needed to hire for their first sales role, they opted to engage us for The Full Franky once  again. They were building a whole new area of their business, and needed some additional support. The Full Franky provided them with a job description, skill and culture assessments, interview questions, and step-by-step coaching to ensure they had all their ducks in a row (so to speak) for any future sales roles. All they had to do was re-use and adapt elements from the initial process, and they were able to hire a whole new team.
